our heroes
The name Uber comes from the slang “uber” which means “topmost” or “super”, and that is exactly what Uber had aimed to represent when the idea sparked on a snowy Paris evening in 2008, when now CEO and Co-Founder Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp had trouble hailing a cab. In recent weeks, the company’s culture has been anything but “topmost”. The company has a broken culture that has been affecting everyone involved; from top management, to the drivers, to its consumers. The crisis that has hit Uber is the product of many small failures. There has been sexual harassment claims, reports of a toxic environment affecting worker performance, sexism, and more. In times like this, one would expect a company to stand together and clear the bad press by showing unity. Within the last few weeks, more than seven of their top executives have left the company. Actions like this have weakened the Uber brand and have left a once strong, up- and-coming company in despair.
